Australian Fires
The recent fires in Australia are devastating – and the crisis is still ongoing. More than 10 million hectares have been burnt, and this number continues to climb. Lives, homes, and up to one billion animals have been affected, including 30% of the entire koala population in mid-north coast of New South Wales. These catastrophic mega-fires are worsening the extinction crisis we’re already facing.

50% of the money raised will be donated to the WWF Australia appeal will help provide urgent care for injured wildlife, restore homes for koalas and plant trees that are urgently needed for koala habitats.

Amazon Fires
Over 40,000 fire outbreaks were detected in the Amazon last summer – an increase of 196% compared to 2018. Land is cleared and prepared for agriculture through fires, but not normally at this intensity. The dry season also contributes to the rapid spread of these fires and the repercussions are devastating.

The Amazon is the world’s largest rainforest and a key ally in fighting the climate crisis and there’s no way we can fight the climate crisis without stopping the destruction of our forests. In addition to the impact on global climate, the fires pose environmental concerns from the excess carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide within the fires’ emissions, potential impacts on the biodiversity of the Amazon, and threats to indigenous tribes that live within the forest.

50% of the money raised will be donated to the WWF Amazon Appeal, to support them with their continued urgent work including:

– Supporting key local and indigenous communities’ needs for medical support, fire fighter training and security
– Working with local governments on procedures for fighting fires and deforestation
– Wildlife monitoring, rescue and recovery care projects
– Campaigning for action from the Government

WWF is the world’s leading independent conservation organisation. Their mission is to create a world where people and wildlife can thrive together.

To achieve this mission, they are finding ways to help transform the future for the world’s wildlife, rivers, forests and seas; pushing for a reduction in carbon emissions that will avoid catastrophic climate change; and pressing for measures to help people live sustainably, within the means of our one planet.
